Iceland 3010 Km in 14 Days: Tips from August -September 2023 Trip.

 

DAY 1


Despite a population of just 330,000 people, Iceland is fast becoming one of northern Europe's big travel destinations. That's because it's simply an extraordinary place. For travelers after out-of-the-ordinary experiences, its ethereal landscapes, smoldering volcanoes and thermal baths are a true mecca. The Golden Circle is the country's classic tourist route, looping from the capital Reykjavik through Thingvellir National Park and on to the iconic Gullfoss waterfall and the geysers of Strokkur and Geysir. Route 1, covering over 800 miles, skirts the country's coastline, providing the perfect opportunity to get off the more well-trodden trail and see the island's empty spaces in all their glory.

All units feature a satellite flat-screen TV and telephone with free local calling. There is also a full kitchenette, fitted with a microwave, a toaster and fridge. Unit comes with a private bathroom with a hairdryer. Airport shuttle services can stop directly at Northern Comfort Apartments. Laugardalslaug, the city's largest outdoor pool, is 1.7 km away. The closest bus stop is 300 metres away. There is a grocery store within 50 meters of the apartment.

Free street parking is available in the area.

    Westfjords:
    There are slippery conditions on some mountain roads. Part of the road Miklidalur (63) is being reconstructed and short delays can be expected. There is a rough surface on part of the road. Drive carefully through the work area.
    North
    There are slippery conditions on Öxnadalsheiði.
    Northeast
    The bridge over Skjálfandafljót (85) will be open until work will begin around noon on the 25th September. The bridge will still be closed to vehicles weighing more than 3,5 t, including buses that carry more than 8 passengers. Bypass on Hringvegur (1).
    East
    There are slippery conditions on some mountain roads.
    Mjóafjarðarvegur (953) is passable for 4x4 cars, the road to Dalatangi is impassable. Reindeers have been spotted near roads in the area.
    Highlands
    Snow is on routes in the northern part of the highlands. Sprengisandur (F-26) is impassable. All off-road driving is strictly prohibited.

    East:
    Spots of ice are on a few mountain roads. The road to Vöðlavík (958) is impassable due to waterdamage.
    Reindeers have been spotted near roads in the area.
    Highlands:
    There is no service on the highland roads (F-roads) after September. Snow is on routes in the northern part of the highlands and a few highland roads are already impassable. All off-road driving is strictly prohibited.
